About us and the role
Are you passionate about science and eager to support the next generation of young scientists? We are seeking a detail-oriented Science Technician to play a key role in supporting the dynamic Science Department at our school.
In this vital role, you will be responsible for the preparation of materials and equipment for lessons, ensuring that science laboratories and preparation rooms are safe, well-organised, and fully equipped for engaging practical activities. You will work closely with teaching staff to support demonstrations and experiments, manage laboratory resources, and maintain scientific equipment to the highest standards.
Your duties will include preparing chemical solutions, setting up apparatus for lessons, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring health and safety protocols are rigorously followed. You’ll also be involved in managing laboratory stock, advising on equipment needs, and even caring for plants and animals used in lessons.

Avanti Fields School is an all-through, faith-designated (Hindu) state school which welcomed the first intake of Year 7 students in September 2018, and first intake of Nursery and Reception students in September 2022. What will you do?
- Prepare materials and equipment for science lessons.
- Maintain science laboratories and preparation rooms and their equipment and services in good order.
- General duties in support of the teachers in the Science Department.
- Ensure the laboratory is clean and tidy in conjunction with the teacher in charge of the room.

What are we looking for?
- Educated to GCSE – including in English, mathematics and science.
- Level 3 or higher qualification in science and/or laboratory technical work. (Desirable)
- Up to date training in health and safety and an excellent track record in the field of health and safety – in particular relating to laboratory work (desirable)
- An ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- An ability to work creatively as an individual and as part of a team.
